I am so excited to share with you all, that in just over a month, I will be curating an evening of dance at one of Edinburgh’s best, freshest and most exciting festivals – Hidden Door.
The most exciting thing about it is it’s taking place at the Old Leith Theatre, which has lain derelict for nearly 30 years.
“‘Everybody thinks they’ve been to Leith Theatre,’ says David Martin, Hidden Door‘s Creative Director, ‘because they’ve been to Thomas Morton Hall. But that isn’t Leith Theatre. Right next door to the hall is this amazing 1500 capacity space, but it’s been boarded up for 28 years.’
This year, it’s time to finally unlock this forgotten venue of north Edinburgh, and the privilege – and challenge – has fallen to Hidden Door. .” (The List) See full article here
Bringing Leith Theatre back to life is not an easy task, and if you want to help you can support Hidden Door’s crowdfunding campaign here. Also can you spot us dancing in the video?!
Kathryn Spence curates ‘Threefold’, an evening of contemporary dance featuring work from herself, Tess Letham and Katie Armstrong. From exploring our personal boundaries to seeing How to Survive the Future, there will be new and exciting movement and music.
It promises an evening of complimenting contrasts; a solo, a duet and ensemble work, with fresh new music created from soundscapes recorded inside the Inchindown War tanks by Kathryn Spence and produced by Cold Courage.
Striving to curate an appealing evening, Kathryn aims to allow presentation of contemporary dance in an accessible light.
As it’s part of Hidden Door Festival there’s loads going on including theatre from Grid Iron, Ludens Ensemble, Roanna Davidson, Clare Marcie and Jamie and Lewis Wardrop.
From the music section there’s SWVN, Midi Pail, DTHPDL and Maud the Moth. 6pm-12am.
Tickets are £11/9 including booking fee
